Man, I miss hangin’ out at those old (independent) record stores!
…shootin’ the fat with the swingin’ cat behind the counter while he’s pulling some odd single, then another, explaining why this one’s so killer or why I need to buy that one. Usually they were raw, intense and yes, LOUD as shit. All I could do to keep from going into convulsions was to hold on for dear life until the tune was over. Damage was done… had to have it. Oh but wait. Check this one out, it’s KILLER!!
Of course there had to be little stories that went along with the songs. But before he could finish his diatribe the song’s over and on to the next smokin’ piece o’ wax. I never knew so much different music existed and if it weren’t for that dude (or chick) behind the counter, I never would. Later I became one o’ those dudes… for nearly 30 years!
Times have changed. With “indie” or “alternative” (to what) music as the mainstream, hittin’ most record shops feels like squintin’ through a smaller version of those 80’s chain stores. And good luck askin’ that bearded “hipster” crony for anything with individuality or dare I say, balls.
So, for all those deprived adventurous souls out there who’ve been searching for something new, something old or just something better …THIS IS FOR YOU!
